Virgin Money London Marathon Charity Ballot

After many weeks of training and an exciting weekend in London, Stuart Fraser completed the Virgin Money London Marathon in an incredible time of 4:07:30 despite being injured and being helped in the later stages of the race over the finish line!  What a runner!  PKDS are extremely grateful to Stuart for his amazing fundraising total of over £1,400 - this funding is so valuable to the work we do and so many young people and adults with physical, learning and sensory disabilities will benefit.  Thankyou Stuart and we wish you a speedy recovery!  You can see photos of Stuart in our Gallery

The paperwork is done and PKDS are delighted to share the news that local runner Stuart Fraser is our VMLM ballot place holder!  Stuart is local to Perth and went to school at Perth Academy before joining the Army as a Royal Engineer in 1996. Stuart has 2 children and works as a Store Manager for the CO-OP in Aberfeldy.

"The vast majority of my spare time I spend supporting and running with the local club, the Perth Road Runners, where I am also a committee member. This gives me a lot of enjoyment and has been pivotal to my own health and fitness over the last 2 years. Through this and my love of parkrun, I with a few other volunteers set up Perth junior parkrun which continues to be successful and brings lots of local kids together to run or jog on a weekly basis where It encourages youngsters to be active in a safe environment in our local parks.  On hearing about the opportunity to support PKDS through running the London Marathon, I leapt at the chance to help out with the fund raising for a local charity which supports so many youths in our area with physical, learning or sensory disabilities. To be able to help raise awareness of what PKDS does directly in our communities and to help continue this work for our local kids is a great opportunity and very worth while.

Supporting this charity is particularly special to me and my family as my 4 year old niece Maisie has Cerebral Palsy.  Maisie, like so many other kids in our area, has in the past and continues to benefit from the amazing work that PKDS do.  Maisie's parents actively seek out activities for Maisie to do within the P&K area but without funding this couldn’t continue so this is where taking on a huge personal challenge and raising money for  a charity that is so close to home will make it even more rewarding.    Doing the London Marathon is by far the biggest running challenge I have taken on so far.  I will have to run further and train more than I have ever done before.  To represent PKDS at one of the biggest running events in the world is certainly a huge motivator for me and I will do my very best to do justice to the place you have entrusted to me while raising funds for this worthwhile charity. I hope I can do all the people that work with PKDS proud on the day"

We wish Stuart the very best of luck in his marathon journey!! Stuart has already made a start to organising fundraising which is fantastic and you can support his efforts by donating on his Virgin Money Giving Page - every penny really does add up and make a difference.
