Boccia is similar to the game of boules and is played on a smooth, flat surface.  The game is played from a seated position and the aim of the game is for a player to place as many of his or her balls closer to the target ball (the jack) than their opponent.  It is a target game that relies on skill, accuracy and tactics as opposed to body size and strength. People of all ages and abilities can play the sport, but in particular, the game is very inclusive for players with physical disabilities regardless of their mobility levels.

You can take part in a boccia class at Bell's Sports Centre both during the day and early evening.  Bell's Sports Centre has boccia markings in the main arena area and coaching hall.  Classes are available:

  • 1.30pm-2.30pm, Tuesdays
  • 5pm-6pm, Wednesdays

Strathearn Community Campus also deliver a boccia session:

  • 5.30pm-6.30pm, Wednesdays

Other Live Active Leisure facilities with boccia markings are Live Active Auchterarder.  You can book any of the courts independently but you will need to check availability with each facility before coming along.  Apply for a Live Active card and save money each time you visit - this can be obtained from any Live Active Leisure facility.  If you need a carer to come with you, then check out Live Active Leisure's care statement.
